You may have heard of a No-Fault Divorce. The UK Government recently announced that the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020 will come into force on 6 April 2022, which will introduce a 'no-fault divorce' in England and Wales.
It has been held back slightly with the covid-19 situation but this new legislation will allow a divorce to be granted without any requirement to place blame on the other party, thereby making divorce proceedings far less contentious.
The introduction of the new 'No-Fault Divorce’ will come into effect on April 6th 2022. Couples will merely now have to show that the relationship has irretrievably broken down for both sides of the relationship, rather than having one side to blame.
There will also be a change in the language used with the removal of archaic terms such as decree nisi, decree absolute and petitioner; those being replaced by conditional order, final order and applicant respectively.
